Purpose
The VC/UHV Library is a Cooperating Collection affiliate of the national Foundation Center (FC). The Foundation Center's mission is to strengthen the nonprofit sector by advancing knowledge about U.S. philanthropy. The Cooperating Collection contains information on potential funding from foundations, corporations, the public sector and other sources for nonprofit funding from nonprofit organizations and individuals. Materials in the collection include guides on grant seeking, proposal writing, other means of fund raising, and texts on nonprofit management/board leadership and giving, and voluntarism/volunteerism.
Hours
The materials in the FC Cooperating Collection are available during regular library hours. An appointment is not required, but is recommended for the first time visitor, or if consultation with a librarian is desired.
Online Databases
- The Foundation Directory Online
- The most comprehensive and current online source on foundation grants. Access to the Foundation Directory Online is available for library use only. Remote access is not available. The Foundation Directory Online includes detailed information on 76,000+ foundations, with links to current foundation 990-PF tax filing, curcial facts on 350,000 grants, including the purpose fo the grant, and a searchable index of 337,000+ trustees, officers, and donors. The database also includes a tutorial on how to search the Foudnation Directory Online, as well as links to FAQS, and additional reosurces.
- Foundation Grants to Individuals Online
- This online resource is a database of programs that award grants to individuals. Foundations Grants to Individuals Online is availalbe for in-library use only. Remote access is not available. This unique online foundation database of over 5,600 grant programs for individuals is searchable by foundation name, foundation city, foundation state, field of interest, type of support, geographic focus, company name, school name, and free text.
Resources
The Cooperating Collection maintains a current and comprehensive set of reference publications and other aids on all apects of grant seeking and fund raising. Most of these materials are located in the Reference Collection and are avilable for use in-Library use only. Selected materials are available for 2 week check out.
